What is Green House Effect?

Different gases are present in our atmosphere like carbonGreen House Effects dioxide, methane, oxygen, nitrogen etc. These gases play a vital role in controlling the temperature of the earth. They allow certain amount of sun rays to pass through them and also let the radiated rays to go back into the atmosphere after hitting the earth crust or water. The rays which enter the atmosphere are of shorter wavelength and after hitting the earth, a large amount of rays are sent back to the atmosphere.

These rays are of larger wavelength therefore they are retarded by some gases present in the atmosphere. The gases which retard the escape of gases are Chloro Fluoro Carbons (CFC), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide. Water vapours also play the same role. Resultantly, the atmosphere start chapping the heat and the temperature of the earth rises. This is called Green House Effect.

The increase of these green house gases is because of burning of fossil fuels for energy needs. Cutting of forests for human needs is fastening the global warming because the consumption of CO2 by trees has decreased a lot.
