What is Global Warming?

Globel_Warming_Effects_On_EarthOur planet is facing a grave threat of global warming. Global warming is the result of the activities of human beings. In this process the temperature of the planet rises up due to sharp increase of the green house gases. It is estimated that the global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the last hundred years ending in 2005. Astrid Heiberg said,

“Climate change is not a doomsday prophecy; it is a reality that cannot be ignored”

There are different groups of scientists who show different models of earth temperature and show different causes of this dangerous phenomenon. One group says that it is a natural phenomenon and there is no serious threat. They say that temperatures rose steeply in the decades before 1940 and dropped from 1940 to about 1975. The recent rise in temperature may be same as happened before 1940.
The second group says that global warming is a man induced phenomenon and it is because of the increase of gases like Chloro Fluoro Carbons (CFC), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide in the atmosphere. They are of the view that global warming is because of “The Green House Effect” and it will create serious problems for the human beings.
